BREWER – Best Buddies is the largest international organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since launching a chapter in Brewer, high school students are helping to achieve that mission one friendship at a time.
In its first year, the Best Buddies chapter at Brewer High School has already become the largest chapter in the state of Maine, making a huge impact in their community.
“It’s something that I think the disability community in this area has been looking for for a long time,” said Brewer High School Special Education Teacher and Best Buddies Advisor, Brandi Butterfield. “I think that friendship and inclusion is a huge piece for our students and we just want everyone to have a friend and feel included,” said Butterfield.
