Celebrating Inclusivity
Best Buddies Arizona’s Annual Friendship Ball is a life-changing event that grants individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) an opportunity to attend a dance alongside their peers. This inclusive occasion, aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and creating lasting memories free from judgment, has been a cornerstone of Best Buddies’ efforts within the IDD community.
This year’s Friendship Ball was made extraordinary thanks to the generous support of our sponsors. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to M Culinary for graciously hosting us at Monterra at WestWorld, Satyr Entertainment for providing the vibrant music, lighting, and Hollywood-themed decorations, and Absolute HCBS for their invaluable sponsorship.
A meaningful highlight of the event is the coronation of the Friendship Ball King and Queen. These remarkable individuals are nominated from school programs by their chapter leadership. This year, Tanner H. from Desert Harbor Middle School was awarded with the title of Friendship Ball King. Tanner, a 7th-grade student and the club Chapter President, embodies the essence of leadership and inclusivity. Grace B. from Higley High School was honored as the Friendship Ball Queen. As a junior, Grace is deeply engaged in the club and was overjoyed by the recognition.
Reflecting on her experience, Grace shared, “I was shocked and surprised when I heard my name announced as the Friendship Ball Queen. It brought me immense joy and honor to have been nominated by my teachers. My favorite part of the night was capturing memories with all my friends who were there.”
Best Buddies Arizona’s Annual Friendship Ball continues to be a beacon of hope and unity for individuals with IDD, providing them with a cherished opportunity to celebrate friendship and inclusivity. With the unwavering support of sponsors and the dedication of organizers, this event not only creates unforgettable moments but also fosters a sense of belonging that lasts long beyond the dance floor.
