Thunderbirds Charities Grants $25,000 to Best Buddies in Arizona
Best Buddies in Arizona has received a generous $25,000 grant from Thunderbirds Charities, strengthening its efforts to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Arizona. This grant will enhance the organization’s School Friendship Project, which aims to create an inclusive environment where students with IDD can participate in school activities without fear of exclusion.
This grant will directly impact 57 active school chapters in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area, with plans to expand into two more schools this academic year. These chapters provide invaluable opportunities for students with IDD to form meaningful connections with their peers, boost their self-confidence and self-esteem, and engage in shared activities.
“We are incredibly grateful for the continued support from Thunderbirds Charities,” said Lisa Cleary, State Director of Best Buddies in Arizona.
“Their generous contributions over the years have been instrumental in expanding our programs and fostering a more inclusive community for individuals with IDD. This latest grant will enable us to reach even more students, creating lasting friendships and empowering them to thrive in inclusive environments. We look forward to continuing our partnership and making a positive impact together.”
Best Buddies’ mission aligns perfectly with the goals of Thunderbirds Charities, which has been a dedicated supporter of Best Buddies in Arizona since 2006, contributing more than $313,000 over the years.
George Thimsen, President of Thunderbirds Charities, expressed pride in supporting Best Buddies Arizona, highlighting the program’s role in promoting an inclusive and fun school environment.
“By fostering interactions between students of all abilities, this program not only enriches their educational experience but also cultivates a culture of inclusivity and friendship,” Thimsen said.
The collaboration between Thunderbirds Charities and Best Buddies in Arizona has been instrumental in advancing opportunities and social integration for individuals with IDD. With this grant, Best Buddies aims to reach more students, ensuring that everyone can benefit from an inclusive educational environment where differences are celebrated.
