Best Buddies Spain to launch Human Libraries Project in Madrid
This year, Best Buddies Spain will be launching an initiative in Madrid called the Human Libraries (Bibliotecas Humanas), a project that aims to eliminate prejudice against people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through dialogue and communication. In this project, Best Buddies participants will act as “books” that tell their individual stories to anyone willing to listen. Human Libraries will be showcased through a series of events including musical performances, photographic exhibitions, and theatrical performances.
Human Libraries is a platform that will allow people with IDD to share their personal experiences and create awareness within their community. This project aims to be a meeting place for people with and without IDD to promote tolerance and dialogue in our society.
One Human Libraries event will focus on integrated employment, where participants with IDD will share their work experiences and the challenges they face when looking for a competitive job alongside their peers in the community. During this event, employers will be encouraged to propose ideas, share valuable advice, and create opportunities that open the doors to employment for our participants.
