Message from our State Director
Best Buddies Arizona began in 2014 with several major goals including expanding our state outreach, chapter growth and advisory board, and increasing our number of events to reach all households, regardless of their income levels. In 2014 we introduced several new events; the Phoenix Dizzy Ultimate Endurance Challenge, Best Buddies Arizona Marathon Team, Best Buddies Arizona Running Club, Camp EKS, and the Buddies & Birdies Golf Tournament. As a result of these new events, Best Buddies Arizona has maintained a steady increase in revenue for the past three years.
The primary focus for creating new events were two-fold; to increase revenue and to expand our outreach which would include all income levels from our gala to Camp EKS. This would allow all families, regardless of their income, to participate in at least one event per year.
In 2014, we expanded to 50 chapters, which was the first chapter growth since 2009. Staff members maintained bi-monthly trainings for both existing and new Ambassadors. Training’s covered a variety of topics and included one community service project. The Ambassadors program created dynamic leaders within the intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) community to not only represent this community, but also to become more self-sufficient and independent.
We strengthened volunteer leadership in 2014, expanding our advisory board from 10 to 14 members and hosting a strategic planning session.
Our goals for 2015 are to expand and grow each event by 10%, maintain the Spirit of Friendship Gala revenue, and increase corporate sponsorships with both funding and participation. We will introduce one new event in 2015 – the Bet for Buddies Casino Night. We also plan to expand the advisory board to 20 members, create a marketing plan for all areas; events, programs, and participants, and maintain revenue with less expenses.
For every strategic goal, Best Buddies Arizona has two advisory board members responsible for the growth and success of each one. Introducing a detailed marketing and media plan behind each goal will ensure more success with outreach and partnerships.
