Message from our State Director
This was a year of great growth for Best Buddies Rhode Island. We opened seven new Friendship programs which has led to dozens of new friendships being created in our schools and communities. As new staff, both myself and our Program Manager, Jessica Null, took a lot of time meeting and beginning to form relationships with our advisory board, school leadership, and participants. Listening to our participants and supporters gave us an insight that has helped us to create our vision for the future. We see Best Buddies being in all 36 school districts throughout Rhode Island by the year 2020.
In 2014, we held several successful state wide events. The Buddies Ball was a great success with a record 260 people in attendance. That success was followed up by the Friendship Walk at Slater Park in Pawtucket and Champion of the Year in Providence. In November of 2014 Heath White came to Rhode Island to run the Myles Standish Marathon with Best Buddies Rhode Island participant, Dean Williams. These inspirational events promote Best Buddies, but more importantly they promote social inclusion and inspire people to take action and join our mission.
Best Buddies Rhode Island is looking forward to many years of continued growth and greater inclusion. Our advisory board is dedicated to spreading the mission and our participants choose to live a life of inclusion for everyone. Thank you to everyone who supports us. Every donor, sponsor, volunteer, and participant brings us one step closer to true inclusion for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Rhode Island. You are the difference.
