Kristen and Heather’s Best Buddies Adult Friendship!
After celebrating their 5-year anniversary of friendship, the bond between these two members of our Citizens program is a perfect example of the lifelong friendships that are established through Best Buddies. Kristen and Heather have been matched in a friendship since October of 2018. Since then, they have made so many memories together. They love going to their favorite restaurants, doing crafts, playing cornhole at the park, and enjoying the musical swings in Lawrence. Their favorite annual tradition is going downtown to the circle at Christmas time to see the lights and sip hot chocolate. Some of Heather’s most treasured memories include attending the Friendship Walk, painting pottery to celebrate her birthday, and going to the movie theaters.
On top of the impactful friendship that she created through the Citizens program, Heather also participates in the Jobs program. She loves her job at Fort Harrison Senior Living, where she has worked as a dining room assistant for over a year. Her favorite part about her job is interacting with and forming bonds with her residents.
Best Buddies has had a tremendous impact on both of their lives. Heather shared:
“It has been great and has changed my life a lot. It gives me the opportunity to go out once a month with somebody and do a lot of fun and different things together.”
Kristen detailed the ways Heather has inspired her throughout their friendship by stating:
“She has grown a ton over these past 5 years. She is so incredibly capable, values her family deeply, and takes great care of her cats. Seeing how much joy and confidence her job is bringing her has been so special to witness. I’m really proud of her and lucky to call her my friend!”
