The Shining Stars Ball brings together a community

OLD TOWN, Maine (WABI) – The Courageous Steps Project teamed up with Best Buddies UMaine to put on An Enchanted Evening: Shining Stars Ball.
The special needs prom in Old Town was free to anyone. The event featured a live DJ, food, and a photo booth. The organizations teamed up for the first time this year after Best Buddies wasn’t able to put on their usual formal. Organizers say it’s important to give everyone this kind of experience.
“For folks and adults with special needs to get the chance to dance their little hearts out and eat and get to be with people who are like them and people who support them and just know that they have a community surrounding them that wants what’s best for them and for them to every opportunity possible,” said Maylinda Boynton, Sweetheart American Women For Service.
Businesses around the state donated raffle prizes for the event. Each person gets to take something home. You can WATCH the mission in action and read more by clicking the button below.
