At Kennett High School, radiant story that depicts our mission to its fullest potential exists. Eliza Netzorg, the esteemed Chapter President of Best Buddies at Kennett High, shares her journey of friendship with her buddy Melissa. Their journey commenced in the hallowed halls of elementary school, where destiny seamlessly aligned their paths.

“Melissa and I met during elementary school. It was an instant connection—an unspoken understanding that drew us closer. Our principal, perceptive to the bond between us, started putting us in the same classes and synching our schedules. We’d share our lunches, navigate class activities together, and, in essence, become each other’s pillars,” reminisces Eliza.

However, the profoundness of their friendship didn’t go unnoticed. Their synergy became a beacon of inspiration for others.

“Our special education teacher was among the first to recognize the depth of our bond. So, during our 3rd grade year, she created the special friends club since Best Buddies didn’t have official elementary programs yet.”

Every Tuesday morning became a time to look forward to filled with joy and inclusivity as a group of students congregated in their classroom. Greeting activities, games that ignited laughter, and shared holiday celebrations knit their friendship tighter. “Melissa and I cherished those moments—those priceless opportunities in person that soon were taken away with COVID,” Eliza fondly reflects.

Their journey continued seamlessly as they transitioned into middle school.

“Joining the Best Buddies program was a natural progression for us. It provided more opportunities for our friendship.” acknowledged Eliza.

As they navigate their 10th-grade year, their friendship remains unwavering, a testament to their genuine and meaningful connection. Recently, they celebrated yet another “Match Party” at UBounce, an event that showcases the Best Buddies mission in action.

Among the many memories that paint the canvas of their friendship, one stands out for Eliza—one in which Eliza serenades Melissa with her best rendition of a Frozen melody. “Melissa adores that song, and seeing her eyes light up as I attempt to match the tune is a memory I’ll forever treasure. She embodies the composer, infusing every note with pure delight,” Eliza recounts.

Their story is a testament to the true power of friendship and inclusion and a reminder that true connection transcends barriers and enriches lives immeasurably.
