Project SEARCH is a proven model that combines employment training with real-world experience. Participants in the program receive hands-on internships, allowing them to develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in competitive employment. The program, which runs from August 2024 through May 2025, is hosted at UC Davis Medical Center, where participants will rotate through various job assignments under the guidance of experienced job coaches. This comprehensive approach equips them with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of the workplace and secure permanent employment.

The launch of Project SEARCH in Sacramento is particularly significant given the stark realities facing individuals with IDD in the job market. Currently, the unemployment rate for this population stands at an alarming 85%, highlighting the critical need for programs like Project SEARCH. By providing targeted training and support, we aim to bridge this gap and help more individuals with disabilities find their dream jobs.

One of the core goals of Project SEARCH is to demonstrate the value that individuals with disabilities bring to the workforce. Through their participation, these individuals not only gain vital skills but also contribute meaningfully to their workplaces and communities. By expanding Project SEARCH to Sacramento, we are taking concrete steps towards lowering the unemployment rate for individuals with IDD and creating a more inclusive workforce.

As we embark on this new chapter, we are filled with optimism for the future. The success of Project SEARCH in Fresno has shown that when given the opportunity, individuals with IDD can excel in a variety of roles, from healthcare to hospitality and beyond. We are excited to see the impact this program will have on the lives of our participants in Sacramento and the broader community!
